Wat ga je doen?
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Senior
Kotlin Engineer to join our team in the Retail Finance
department. You’ll play a key role in a small, growing
team that is responsible for migrating and modernizing
our finance systems using Kotlin microservices. This is a unique
opportunity to help shape the architecture and functionality of our
next-generation finance platform, working closely with Product
Owners and Engineering
Managers.
Your new team and
office.
Our Finance teams are a special
breed within Albert Heijn, working on complex and business-critical
systems that handle the flow of money between Albert Heijn and its
suppliers. We are rapidly growing as we take on a major new
initiative: the Invoiceprep project. This project will
span approximately two years and involves rethinking and rebuilding
key finance functionalities, not just migrating them one-to-one
from legacy systems.
We work hybrid
from our office in Zaandam (right next to the train station) two
days per week, with Tuesday as our main office day. The
rest of the week you can work remotely. We value collaboration,
knowledge sharing, and building a strong engineering
community; you’ll have access to a network of over 150
engineers and regular opportunities to connect, learn, and have
fun.
What You’ll
Do.
- Engineering: Design,
develop, and maintain Kotlin microservices as part of our new
finance architecture. - Migration: Analyze
existing legacy systems, identify which functionalities
to migrate and how to improve them in the new
platform. - Ownership: Take end-to-end
responsibility for your services, including deployment and
lifecycle management (DevOps
mindset). - Collaboration: Work closely with
Product Owners, other engineers, and stakeholders to deliver robust
solutions. - Automation: Help automate manual
finance processes and contribute to a more efficient, scalable
platform. - Innovation: Get involved in AI
initiatives and DevAI offerings, with the freedom to experiment and
innovate. - Community: Contribute to building an
active engineering community within Albert
Heijn.
What we
offer.
At Albert Heijn, we aim to become
a leading retail tech organization, and this is only possible if
you join and grow along with us. As we work together, you can count
on (based on 40 hours per
week):
- Annual salary including
holiday allowance up to 95K. - A minimum of 20
days paid vacation, optionally 12.5 days extra. Do you want to take
that extra time off, or would you rather convert the extra days
into discounts or sell them for cash? You’re the end
boss!; - Flexible working
hours; - Access to a challenging training
curriculum – AH Tech Academy; - An excellent
pension plan where we as an employer contribute 4,5 more than you
as an employee; - A travel allowance or a
NS-business card for traveling to and from Zaandam by
train; - Attractive discounts on various
insurance policies; - 10% staff discount on
groceries in all Albert Heijn stores, to a maximum of €300 per
year; - A free Mijn Albert Heijn Premium
membership with many benefits; - A company laptop
and
telephone.
What
we’re looking for.
We
think it’s important to be part of a highly belonging
team; a team where you can be yourself and feel
safe, accepted and appreciated. For this job we are
preferably looking for someone who brings diversity to our team, in
the widest possible sense. Someone who is a great
addition to our team by bringing other ideas to the
table. Don’t check all the boxes? Don’t worry,
we probably don’t either. Don’t hesitate
to apply if you think you are up for the
challenge, we’re happy to have a look at your
resume:
- 5+ years of experience
as a backend engineer, with strong hands-on experience in Kotlin
(or another JVM language such as Java or
Scala). - Experience designing and building
microservices architectures. - Experience with
relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL and
MongoDB). - Experience with cloud platforms,
preferably Azure. - DevOps mindset: comfortable
with CI/CD, deployments, and owning the full lifecycle of your
services. - Experience working in Agile product
teams (2-week sprints). - Security development
experience or affinity with DevSecOps is a plus (e.g.,
OWASP). - Strong analytical skills and ability to
work on complex, business-critical
systems. - Willingness to work hybrid from our
Zaandam office (at least 2 days per week, Tuesday is our main
office day). - Must already work and live in The
Netherlands.
Ready
to contribute?
Do you want to play an
active role in building the future of finance at Albert Heijn? Then

encourage you to apply as soon as
possible.
