The Team
ING is a leading global bank, with retail & wholesale business around the globe. The SRE Global team is responsible to roll-out the global SRE practices to improve the reliability of ING’s critical services worldwide.

The IT Continuity team (BCM team) is responsible for the definition & roll-out of the BCM processes and IT Continuity practices across Tech. The Global Tech organisation provides all the global Tech services and tooling supporting our global engineering workforce. Within Tech the BCM team is a higly specialized team that prepares the ING organization for undesired severe incidents. In order to achieve this the BCM team creates inventories of possible business continuity treatening situations. Designs in coorperation with the different departments the crisis organization and processes to handle these incidents and also organize the test of effectiveness for these processes.

Role & Responsibilities
As member of the Global SRE BCM chapter; being a global expert in BCM within Tech, including applying BCM process within the Global Tech organization, development & roll-out of IT related controls, processes & practices which concentrate around IT Continuity plans & DR testing.
Develops, innovates, matures & implements the BCM & IT continuity processes & practices across ING, in cooperation with the entity-level SRE teams and Global/local (business) BCM teams. With the overall purpose to improve resilience of our critical IT & business services.

  • Ensures correct implementation of the BCM process across Tech; as part of the business BCM process (e.g. in retail / wholesale entities) or the execution of the BCM process (e.g. for Global Tech entities like I&E, BTP, CISO and PSS) – business impact analysis & risk assessment, design of the BCM strategy, maintenance of the BCM calendar and training & awareness; development & testing of the Business Continuity Plans, development / implementation / testing of Crisis Management Plans.
  • Defines the global standards for IT continuity plan development & testing for IT services, including datacenter disaster recovery testing.
  • Ensures correct implementation of the BCM capabilities for Service Providers (captives & partners) across Tech as well as contingency plan development & testing for services classified as critical/important sourcing (based on Sourcing Policy)
  • Specific assignment is to develop a consistent (datacenter) disaster recovery approach across our global tech platform providers & consumers (aka ‘provider-driven DR’).
  • Ensures proper documentation, training material and other ways to get the knowledge to our engineers across ING. Sets the standards for the expert team and takes responsibility for developing, innovating and safeguarding knowledge in the field of expertise.
  • Operate in strong cooperation with involved Enterprise Architects, entity SREs & engineers and the Global OpRes/BCM team.

  • 10-15+ Years in software engineering / IT operations and/or software architect roles.
  • Knowledgeable about technology in all levels in the technology stack (from infrastructure to front-end, from CI/CD to observability tooling) on a high level.
  • Preferred is hands-on experience with development of BCM/IT continuity within Tech e.g. development of continuity plans for Tech services and execution/coordination of datacenter down DR exercises and hands-on experience with implementation of IT risk controls.
  • Broad understanding of technologies and consumer needs.
  • Natural self-motivation and drive to take end-to-end ownership.
  • Mindset of openness and willingness to try new ways of working.
  • Curiosity to always look out for innovation opportunities.
